Improving the health and wellness of the communities we serve

Regarding the Brown Act:

“In enacting this chapter, the Legislature finds and declares that the public commissions, boards, and councils and the other public agencies in this State exist to aid in the conduct of the people’s business. It is the intent of the law that their actions be taken openly and that their deliberations be conducted openly.

The people of this State do not yield their sovereignty to the agencies which serve them. The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created.”

“All meetings of the legislative body of a local agency shall be open and public, and all persons shall be permitted to attend any meeting of the legislative body of a local agency, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.” The Brown Act, State of California

Every regular meeting of a legislative body of a local agency must be preceded by posted agenda that advises the public of the meeting and the matters to be transacted or discussed. The agenda must be posted at least 72 hours before the regular meeting in a location “freely accessible to members of the public,” (24/7); special meetings require a 24-hour notice. Morongo Basin Healthcare Districts are posted on this website and at the physical entrance to the administrative office located at 6530 La Contenta Road, Suite 100, Yucca Valley, California.

The Morongo Basin Healthcare District board of directors typically meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Currently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings are convened physically on the LaContenta campus and/or using a remote electronic platform. Details are included in the agenda. The board may also schedule special meetings at other times when needed and will post notice according to the Brown Act.

Likewise, the Morongo Basin Community Health Center governing board typically meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m.

Meeting agendas are posted to this site at least 72 hours in advance of each meeting and minutes are posted after approval. Special meetings require only a 24-hour window to post. CLICK HERE to view posted minutes.
